A Mexican television presenter has faced widespread criticism after kicking a drone during a live broadcast, accidentally sending it flying into a model’s face.

The shocking incident occurred on October 26 during an episode of Es Show, an entertainment programme broadcast on Canal 6 in Monterrey, Mexico.

Host Ernesto Chavana, 58, was presenting the show when a small production drone hovering nearby appeared to irritate him, Metro reports.

Rather than allowing the device to continue flying around the studio, Chavana suddenly kicked it.

However, the decision had painful consequences for Colombian model and dancer Isabella Rojas, who was standing nearby.

The drone flew across the studio with its propellers still spinning before striking Rojas directly in the face.

Footage of the incident shows the model immediately doubling over in pain as other cast members rushed to assist her.

Rojas, who is known on the programme as La Colombiana, was visibly distressed following the impact and was escorted away from the cameras by members of the production team.

She was subsequently given medical attention while Chavana continued presenting the programme.

The incident was captured on camera and quickly circulated across social media, where viewers expressed disbelief at the presenter’s actions.

Much of the criticism focused not only on his decision to kick the drone but also on his initial reaction after realising Rojas had been injured.

Some viewers accused Chavana of failing to show immediate concern for his colleague.

One person wrote: “The worst part is that after he realises he hurt the girl, instead of immediately apologising and recognising his outburst, on the contrary, he kept yelling for them to get the drone out! They should fire him and remove him immediately from the programme.”

Another viewer was equally critical of the presenter’s response.

“Poor girl, and the dude doesn’t even pretend to console her or apologise. I hope she sues that production and that man. How could anyone do this? Do you not see the innocent people all around you?”

A third added: “What a lack of professionalism! I hope they take responsibility for their foolishness.”

Others raised concerns about the potential seriousness of the injuries, particularly given that the drone’s propellers were still moving when it struck Rojas.

One social media user argued that the consequences could have been considerably worse.

“The blades could have gouged out one of the model’s eyes,” they wrote. “Not to mention leaving a scar on her face that’s part of her stock-in-trade… Talk about idiotic.”

Another commenter called for Chavana to face consequences over the incident. “I don’t know who he is, but what a disgusting person, he shouldn’t be the host of a show; he should pay for the moral and physical damages,” they wrote on X.

Despite the backlash, some viewers defended the presenter, arguing that he had not intended to injure Rojas. One Instagram user suggested the incident should be treated as an accident rather than a deliberate act.

“It was an accident; he already admitted his fault; he never did it with the intention of hitting [her],” they wrote.

Following the incident, Rojas returned to the programme after receiving medical attention. “I’m very sorry. I take responsibility for what just happened,” he said.

She later shared footage on Instagram showing the injury she had sustained, revealing a cut on her lip.

In the video, the model could be seen showing the injury to Chavana, making clear the physical consequences of the drone striking her face.

The accompanying post was captioned: “Chavana will be held responsible for what happened.”

Although reports indicated that Rojas had sustained minor injuries, no detailed medical update was made publicly available.

Production representatives also reportedly confirmed that damages resulting from the incident would be covered. However, no further details have been released about whether Chavana will face disciplinary action or other consequences.

It’s also not known why Chavana kicked the drone in the first place.
