A couple who shared a seemingly innocent selfie on Instagram have found themselves at the centre of an online comedy session after social media users began competing to deliver the most creative compliments imaginable.

The photograph, posted by Instagram user @isabelxmariex alongside @yereton, showed the pair posing together indoors.

While there was nothing particularly unusual about the picture, their attractive and polished appearance quickly became the inspiration for a series of increasingly ridiculous comments.

Rather than resorting to traditional insults (as can sadly be the case online), social media users began finding ways to playfully roast the couple by making them sound almost impossibly perfect.

The original Instagram post featured the caption “Mom and dad”.

In the photograph, the man, Yereton, can be seen wearing a dark sleeveless knitted top, while his partner, Isabel, stands beside him in a red vest.

Both look directly into the camera, with the image capturing a simple moment between the pair. But thanks to their outrageously stunning appearance, it wasn’t long before thumbs stopped scrolling.

The post attracted more than 17,000 likes and hundreds of comments, with several responses standing out for their unusual creativity. One commenter delivered a particularly memorable comparison, writing: “They look refurbished by the cleaner in Toy Story 2”.

The remark referenced the scene in the animated film where Woody undergoes a meticulous restoration, emerging looking practically brand new.

Another person took a completely different approach, comparing the couple’s appearance to something exceptionally clean. “You guys look like purified water”, they joked.

The jokes continued as another user suggested the couple looked almost too polished to be real.

“You guys look like stock photo of a frame”, they wrote.

Someone else took the comparison a step further, suggesting the photograph looked so perfect that it resembled something created using artificial intelligence: “Hey Grok create me a happy perfect couple”

The comment played on the increasingly common perception that AI-generated images can depict people with unusually flawless appearances.

Another person joined in with a similarly themed observation, writing: “When AI says it’s fake…”

However, not everyone focused on the couple’s almost picture-perfect appearance.

Some users decided to invent an entire lifestyle for the pair based on the impression created by their photograph.

One commenter imagined them starting each day with a carefully curated morning routine, writing: “They wake up naturally every morning to watch the sunrise while drinking organic freshly ground pure black coffee.”

Another person offered a more poetic assessment of the couple’s appearance.

“The sun wakes up to watch you rise”, they wrote.

Others kept their contributions considerably shorter.

One commenter simply named the couple: “Health and wellbeing”.

When social media can often be a place for negativity and – let’s face it – downright cruelty, it is so refreshing to see positivity flooding this couple.
