Ryan Reynolds has shown exactly why he means so much to his fans after leaving a heartwarming message for a burn survivor who dressed up as Deadpool in a bid to get the actor’s attention.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Hollywood star, best known for playing the wisecracking Marvel superhero, responded to a young man named Jadiant after discovering the incredible effort he had put into recreating one of the character’s most recognisable poses.
And while Reynolds is no stranger to delivering a joke, his response clearly meant more to the fan than he could ever have imagined.
Jadiant, whose real name is John Quinn, shared a photograph of himself dressed as Deadpool while performing the splits, having specifically learned the move for the occasion.
But there was a much deeper meaning behind the costume.
The young man, who lives in Millington, Tennessee, explained that Deadpool had helped him become more comfortable with his appearance and given him the confidence to embrace who he really is.
Rather than hiding behind the character’s famous mask, Jadiant deliberately chose to show his face.
In his Instagram post, he explained: “It would make my dream come true if @vancityreynolds got to see this post! I learned to do the splits just for this photo. Deadpool has honestly made me way more confident. Anyone who has read or watched anything about Deadpool, knows his face and body are pretty messed up. So it’s only natural that I cosplay him. I wanted to be authentic as possible, and that was to not wear a mask. It’s so easy to cover up who I am, and to give In to despair. Deadpool just makes me not care about that stuff and show my true self. This is me, and I’m not Ashamed about it. Deadpool is icy clean, and he’s helped my self esteem so much. I’m owning who I am, and cosplaying Deadpool makes it that much easier.”
It was a powerful message about self-acceptance, and one that eventually reached the very person Jadiant had hoped would see it.
Reynolds replied directly to the post, making it clear just how much the tribute had affected him.
“Holy shit, Jadiant, this made my YEAR. Can’t even describe what this post means to me. Also, I can do the splits… but only once a year. And it has to be in the lobby of a hospital.”
It was classic Reynolds, combining a genuinely touching reaction with the sort of humour that has become synonymous with his portrayal of Deadpool.
For Jadiant, however, simply receiving a response was almost impossible to process.
He immediately replied with an emotional message, writing: “BROOO […] I CANT BELIEVE YOU SEEN IT! You made this so worth it. I HOPE YOU CONTINUE TO INSPIRE SO MANY OTHERS ITD MEAN THE WORLD TO ME IF YOU KEPT UP WITH MY JOURNEY! I’m such a big fan.”
The interaction also caught the attention of other Instagram users, who praised both Jadiant’s costume and Reynolds’ connection with his fans.
One person wrote: “Ryan’s such a perfect Deadpool pick”
Another added: “11/10 cosplay, one of the best I’ve ever seen”
A third commented: “Ryan is really the perfect casting for deadpool”
Speaking to Bored Panda about the exchange, Jadiant admitted he had never expected Reynolds to respond.
“My idol Ryan Reynolds saw who I am, he knows I exist. He saw how much work I put into that moment. And now? Well, I can die in peace,” 21-year-old Jadiant said.
He added that the surprise left him struggling to believe what had happened.
“I felt reborn, holy crap. I thought I was dreaming.”
Jadiant also explained that the character had helped him feel confident enough to present his authentic self to the world without shame.
But his story extends well beyond dressing up as his favourite superhero.
He is an ambassador, champion and influencer for the Courageous Faces Foundation, an organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life of people living with rare and severe medical conditions caused by injury, illness or genetics.
Alongside his advocacy work, Jadiant is also a model, speaker and college student.
He told Bored Panda that raising awareness of the foundation was particularly important to him, and encouraged people to support its mission.
His experiences have also shaped the advice he offers to others who might be struggling with their confidence or going through difficult periods in their lives.
“There is no right solution that fits everyone in their suffering. I’d say it’s important to remember these feelings, and validate them, but don’t stay in them. Often times, it’s easier to give in to despair and not care. But I just want you to beware our biggest enemy is ourselves. We never really grow up, we just learn how to parent our inner child.”
For Jadiant, Deadpool represents far more than a superhero with an outrageous sense of humour.
The character has become a source of confidence, helping him celebrate his appearance rather than feel the need to conceal it. Proof that there are real heroes out there!
