Four boys who sprang into action to save a four-year-old girl from drowning were given a lifetime reward by her grateful family.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The dramatic incident unfolded at Jackson City Park, where heavy rain had caused water levels in Hubble Creek to rise over a low-water bridge.
Children had been swimming and splashing around in the water when little Kinsley Stuart suddenly disappeared, KFVS reports.
The strong current had pulled her into an uncovered culvert beneath the bridge, trapping her in a terrifying situation.
Kinsley later recalled: “And my feet were there, and my eyes were open the whole time. I saw green stuff.”
Fortunately, Jackson resident Aiden Kyle noticed something was wrong.
“We were all at the park. It was raining and the water was higher, over the bridge, and we were all swimming, splashing and having fun. There was a little girl and we were all wondering where she went,” he said.
Aiden then spotted Kinsley’s hand and immediately went after her.
“I saw her hand on top of the bridge part, so I jumped in and I grabbed on,” he explained.
But the force of the water was so powerful that Aiden couldn’t pull Kinsley out by himself.
He called for help from his longtime friend Isaiah Randol, who quickly jumped in.
“He was getting sucked in with her, so I jumped in and I grabbed her hand with him and we both pulled,” Isaiah recalled.
Even two boys weren’t enough.
“Then the other two boys jumped in and it took four boys to pull this girl out because it was that strong,” Isaiah continued.
Working together, the four youngsters eventually managed to overcome the current and pull Kinsley to safety.
She was subsequently taken to hospital to be checked over before being released.
For Kinsley’s mum, Casey Stuart, there was no conventional thank-you gift that could possibly reflect what the boys had done for her family.
Casey and her family owned Kenny’s Flipping Burgers, and the day after the rescue she revealed that the four boys would never have to pay for a meal there again.
“We do want to say thank you to the boys from Kennys. We own Kenny’s flipping burgers. And we want to let you boys know that you guys can eat with us forever, for free. Because there is no amount of money, that can ever be put on what you did,” she said.
Following the incident, the City of Jackson was contacted about the danger posed by the culvert.
Kent Peetz of the Department of Public Works said at the time that possible measures including caution signs and a grate over the culvert would be discussed.
For Kinsley’s family, however, the outcome could have been very different without four boys noticing she was in trouble and refusing to stand by.
And while free meals for life is quite the reward, Casey’s words summed up why she felt they deserved it: there simply wasn’t a price that could be put on what they had done.
