A family had recently been staying at the Four Seasons in Taormina, with Julia bringing along her beloved stuffed animal, Rosie.
Rosie is a regular travel companion for Julia and joins her whenever she goes away, making what happened at the end of their stay particularly upsetting.
After the pair had left the hotel, they realised Rosie was nowhere to be found.
It appeared the stuffed animal had accidentally been swept up with the bedding by housekeeping and left behind.
Julia contacted the hotel to explain what had happened, sending staff a photograph of Rosie in the hope that somebody might be able to track her down.
There was understandably some concern about what could have happened to the toy, including whether Rosie had ended up going through an industrial washing and drying cycle or had simply been discarded.
Fortunately, neither scenario marked the end of Rosie’s travels.
Hotel staff managed to locate the missing stuffed animal – and rather than simply putting her in a box and sending her home, they decided to make her unexpected extra days in Sicily look suitably luxurious.
Pictures shared by the hotel showed Rosie apparently making the most of the facilities, spending time beside the pool, visiting the bar and relaxing in bed like a genuine VIP guest.
Julia’s sister subsequently documented the gesture on TikTok, where the post went viral and was viewed by millions of people.
The hotel then went one step further.
When Rosie was finally sent back to Julia, staff covered the shipping costs and included a heartfelt letter written from the stuffed animal’s perspective.
“Dear my special friend,” the letter wrote. “When we got separated at the beautiful San Domenico Palace, I was a little worried at first, but the kind people at the hotel took very good care of me while I waited for you.”
The letter continued by filling Julia in on everything Rosie had supposedly been doing during their unexpected time apart.
“I had quite an adventure! I woke up to sunny mornings, relaxed by the pool, enjoyed delicious breakfasts, and explored some of the lovely corners of the hotel. I even pretended I was a very important guest for a few day!”
After getting the full VIP treatment, however, Rosie apparently knew exactly where she really wanted to be.
The hotel finished its message with one final touching line.
“P.S. The San Domenica Palace was lovely, but my favorite place in the whole world is right beside you.”
