A cat has captured plenty of attention online after being rescued from a burning apartment by firefighters – although judging by the look on his face, he appeared to have several questions about the whole ordeal.

Firefighters in Plano responded to a kitchen fire at a multi-storey apartment complex at around 7:00PM on Tuesday, September 1, per WFAA.

While the situation was already serious, crews were quickly made aware of another problem inside the property.

The resident had managed to alert firefighters that their cat was still trapped inside the burning apartment, prompting crews to begin searching for the animal.

Thankfully, they didn’t have to search for long.

Firefighters located the cat in less than ten minutes and were able to safely bring him out of the building before reuniting him with his owner.

And that was when one particular image from the rescue stole the show.

The cat was pictured being held by a firefighter outside the apartment complex, surrounded by members of the emergency crew.

While everyone else looked focused on the job at hand, the rescued animal appeared completely bewildered by what had just happened.

Wide-eyed and dangling in the firefighter’s arms, the black-and-white cat certainly didn’t look particularly impressed with his unexpected encounter with the emergency services.

More importantly, however, he appeared to be healthy following the rescue.

The cat’s owner later got in touch to reveal that his name is Theodore, confirming that he was doing well after the frightening incident and had been reunited with his owner, Nicole.

The outcome could have been considerably worse given that firefighters had been called to an active kitchen fire in a multi-storey residential building.

Only one person was displaced as a result of smoke, water and fire damage.

Meanwhile, the apartment complex’s sprinkler system helped limit the impact elsewhere, with other apartments suffering only minor damage.

The quick response from firefighters, combined with the resident immediately telling crews that Theodore remained inside, meant the cat was located within minutes.

And while Theodore’s expression after emerging from the apartment may be the part of the story that catches people’s attention, everyone involved ultimately made it out safely.

Plano firefighters summed up the outcome in a statement following the incident.

“Grateful everyone made it out safely, and the fire was brought under control swiftly!” the department said.

For Theodore, it meant an eventful Tuesday evening ended back where he belonged with Nicole.

He may have escaped the apartment apparently unharmed, but the photograph from the aftermath suggests it could take a little longer for him to work out exactly what on earth had just happened.
