Having twins can present parents with a few unexpected challenges – and one dad appears to have found a brilliantly straightforward solution to one of them.

The problem? Telling his two babies apart.

With the youngsters looking so similar that their dad was struggling to work out which twin was which, he decided there was no point leaving anything to chance.

Instead, he came up with a rather drastic identification system: shaving the numbers ‘1’ and ‘2’ directly into their hair.

One twin has been given a huge number ‘1’ across the top of his head, while the other has a number ‘2’.

It certainly isn’t subtle.

Rather than relying on different outfits, remembering who had been placed on which side of the pushchair or trying to spot tiny differences between the pair, their dad’s method makes identifying them about as simple as it possibly could be.

A quick glance at the top of their heads is now all that is required.

Of course, the babies themselves appear completely unaware of the practical purpose behind their unusual matching trims.

And while plenty of parents might choose different clothes or accessories to distinguish between twins, shaving numbers into their hair takes the idea to another level entirely.

There is something particularly funny about just how functional the solution is.

No elaborate system. No second-guessing. Just twin number one and twin number two, clearly labelled for anyone who might otherwise get confused.

The image also makes the contrast even more noticeable because, aside from the numbers, the two babies have been given extremely similar-looking shaved hairstyles.

Dad may have struggled before, but he has certainly made sure that problem won’t be quite as difficult while the numbers remain visible.

It might not be the conventional approach to telling twins apart, but you can’t argue with the logic.

When faced with two babies he couldn’t reliably distinguish between, this dad seemingly decided the easiest answer was simply to number them.

Sometimes the simplest solutions really are the best.
