A deceptively simple image has sparked a huge debate online after thousands of people were challenged to find a hidden animal that many insist simply isn’t there.

This particular challenge has become one of his most talked-about posts, with viewers split between those who spotted the hidden image almost instantly and those who admitted they couldn’t see anything at all.
The puzzle reportedly contains a hidden panda, although many viewers were convinced the image showed something completely different.
Sharing the illusion on TikTok, Hectic Nick challenged his audience with the caption: “You can only like this video if you can find the hidden image in the picture.”
He then added: “Apparently only one percent of people can find it – if they can, comment because I can see nothing. Good luck.”
The challenge quickly attracted huge engagement as people rushed to compare their results in the comments.
For many, the panda proved almost impossible to locate.
“I can’t see it lol,” one person writes.
A second says: “I really couldn’t see it at first.”
Others explained they eventually managed to uncover the hidden animal after changing the way they looked at the image.
“I had to turn my phone upside down,” shares another.
A fourth viewer comments: “I made my eyes blurry.”
Some viewers even found their own techniques.
One TikTok user wrote: “Panda – shake the screen.”
Another viewer suggested: “Just look down at your phone charger and up onto your screen really fast and you will see it.”
However, not everyone agreed the puzzle was difficult.
Several users claimed they spotted the hidden panda immediately and couldn’t understand why so many people were struggling.
“It’s very easy to see what it is. I saw it immediately,” boasts another.
A third person pens: “This challenge was a lot easier than I thought.”
“Panda. It’s visible. I’m in that exclusive one percent. Yessssss,” someone else says.
Those who solved the illusion also began offering advice to help everyone else.
One viewer points out: “I saw a panda, you can only see it if you move the picture away from you.”
Another suggests: “Instead of looking away, just cross your eyes to look at your nose. Then look at the screen and you’ll see the panda first for one second.”
“I saw a panda because I tilted my device,” shares somebody else.
But despite all the tips, not every viewer managed to find the same hidden image.
Some people insisted they weren’t looking at a panda at all.
“I see two or three people hold a ball in the air,” theeonlykeke100 said.
He was echoed by scotlyns_half, who said she had “found a basketball game happening.”
The differing responses have only fuelled the popularity of the illusion, with many users repeatedly returning to the image to see if they can finally spot what everyone else is talking about.
According to psychology experts, there is a scientific explanation for why people experience the puzzle so differently.
In an interview with News.com.au, Associate Professor Paul E. Dux, from the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland, explained: “Some have better ‘spatial attention’ than others.”
Visual-spatial attention refers to the brain’s ability to focus on a particular area within a scene, allowing some people to detect hidden objects more quickly than others.
Professor Dux also pointed out that there can be another, much simpler explanation.
“The other reason is that people sometimes just get lucky, and the eyes fall on the target immediately,” Professor Dux adds.
Professor Barton Anderson, from the University of Sydney, also offered advice for anyone still struggling with the challenge.
He tells New.com.au that if people struggle to spot the panda, they need to “view the image from a distance, or to blur their eyes by squinting.”
Optical illusions like this continue to dominate social media feeds because they encourage people to compare results, debate what they’re seeing and challenge friends to beat them.
Whether you spotted the hidden panda immediately, needed to tilt your phone, blur your vision or still can’t see anything at all, the viral image has achieved exactly what it set out to do — proving that two people can look at exactly the same picture and come away with completely different answers.
