The countdown to Grand Theft Auto VI is creating excitement across the gaming world, but for some couples it’s also creating paperwork.

The agreement first gained traction after being shared by Reddit user u/dontfwithme99 before the original post was later deleted. While it’s now unclear where the original photo actually came from, screenshots have continued circulating across social media, with the document quickly becoming one of the internet’s favourite GTA VI-related posts.
Rather than simply joking about spending hours exploring Rockstar Games’ latest world, the contract lays out a series of rules that would supposedly come into effect between November 19 and November 29, 2026.
It begins:
Contract Agreement
From November 19th, 2026 – November 29th, 2026, I can play Grand Theft Auto VI as much as I want.
And the rules only become more specific from there. According to the agreement:
Walking in front of the TV or monitor while a mission, cutscene, heist, or online session is in progress is strictly forbidden and will result in consequences.
The document also bans a number of phrases that shouldn’t be said if things go wrong during gameplay.
If the player fails a mission, gets wasted or gets busted, their partner is instructed not to say:
“It’s just a game.”
“You can do it later.”
“Haven’t you been playing long enough?”
The contract doesn’t stop there.
It also states:
All hugs, kisses, conversations, errands, and “Can you help me with this really quick?” requests must wait until I have completed my current mission or reached a safe house.
However, there is one amusing clause that appears to balance the scales.
The final section reads:
If you purchased the game for me or contributed at least £40 towards the game, you may eliminate ONE stipulation from Rules 2–4.
That loophole has become one of the internet’s favourite parts of the agreement, with many joking that it’s effectively a pay-to-win mechanic built into a real-life relationship contract.
While the authenticity of the original document remains unclear, its popularity has taken on a life of its own.
Since first appearing on Reddit, videos have flooded TikTok showing other men taking inspiration from the viral agreement by asking their own partners to sign similar GTA VI contracts before launch day.
Whether they’re being taken seriously or simply part of the joke, the trend underlines just how enormous the anticipation surrounding GTA VI has become months before players even get their hands on it.
The contract has also sparked plenty of debate online, with some finding the idea hilarious while others questioned just how seriously anyone should take it.
Among the reactions shared on Instagram were: “Please send me a copy of the agreement I need to make my wife sign it.”
“I have comments, but I was raised to be nice,” another person added, with a third typing: “Red flag. Run girl!”
“If you gotta do all that, then she ain’t the one. Real ones already know what’s up,” a fourth commented.
With GTA VI already shaping up to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in recent memory, fans are clearly preparing in their own unique ways.
For some, that means booking time off work. For others, it apparently means making sure every household distraction has been contractually accounted for before stepping into Rockstar’s next open world.
