For most people, winning the lottery sits in that same fantasy category as owning a mansion, quitting work early, and flying first class around the world without checking the bank balance.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It’s the kind of dream millions think about — but far fewer actually act on.
And for one man in Michigan, that dream became reality in the most unlikely way possible… after making what looked like a simple mistake at the counter.
A 68-year-old man from Oakland County has landed a staggering $1.05 million jackpot after accidentally buying tickets for a lottery game he had been actively avoiding.
Yes, really.
The unnamed winner struck gold through Michigan Lottery’s Detroit Lions-themed Fast Cash game — the exact game he’d stopped playing because it had brought him nothing but frustration.
It turns out forgetting one sentence changed everything.
The man explained that when he normally buys Fast Cash tickets, he usually keeps it random.
But in recent months, there had been one exception.
“When I buy Fast Cash tickets, I hand the cashier money and tell them to give me any of the Fast Cash games, but lately I’ve been saying any except the Detroit Lions game because I hadn’t been having luck with it. I forgot to tell the cashier that this time, and the Detroit Lions game is what he printed for me,” the 68-year-old said.

That split-second slip turned into a life-changing moment.
Instead of the usual disappointment, the ticket ended up hitting the jackpot — paying out just over $1 million.
Not bad for a game he didn’t even want.
And the irony hasn’t been lost on him.
He said: “All I’ve been thinking since winning is how glad I am that I forgot to tell the cashier not to give me the Detroit Lions game!”
That one forgotten instruction is now worth seven figures.
According to the winner, he typically only jumps into Fast Cash games when jackpots climb above the $700,000 mark, seeing it as the point where it becomes worth taking a shot.
This time, though, there was no special strategy. No careful planning. No lucky feeling.
Just habit, forgetfulness, and pure chance.
It’s another reminder of how unpredictable lottery wins can be — and how sometimes the tickets you least expect can change everything.
While plenty of jackpot winners immediately start talking about dream cars, luxury holidays, and huge property purchases, this winner seems to have something else in mind.
The man told lottery officials that “he plans to take care of his family” with the money, although he kept the finer details private.
And honestly, after landing $1.05 million by accident, he’s probably still processing it.
For everyone else, it’s a story that’ll make you think twice before calling something bad luck.
Because in this case, the losing game turned out to be the winning one.
And one forgotten sentence at the till ended up being worth a million dollars.
