Adaptive athlete and influencer Katie Thomas, who is known online as slightlyoff.balance, has gone viral after sharing bodycam footage of the bizarre traffic stop involving a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Thomas, 36, was stopped back in February while driving along North Dixie Highway after the officer claimed he saw her “holding the phone with your right hand” and “manipulating that phone” behind the wheel.

There was just one major flaw in the accusation.

Thomas was born without a right hand.

The moment the deputy explained why she had been pulled over instantly turned awkward after Thomas simply raised her right arm to show him.

“So I’m obviously not,” she laughed. “So you wanna just call this a day?”

But despite the obvious misunderstanding, the officer continued insisting he had seen her using a device while driving. “I don’t want to ‘call it a day,’” he replied. “You had a hand up.”

Thomas repeatedly attempted to explain that what the deputy claimed to have seen physically could not have happened.

Bodycam footage later shared online showed the surreal exchange continuing as the officer questioned whether she had been using her phone at all while driving.

At one point, the deputy even asked Thomas to swear she was telling the truth and asked her to put a ‘hand to God’.

“Hand to God,” Thomas responded while once again lifting her right arm.

“The other hand to God,” the officer awkwardly replied.

Despite the interaction, Thomas was still handed a citation for violating Florida’s wireless communications while driving law.

The ticket fell under Florida Statute 316.305(3)(a) for “Wireless Comm. Device/Handheld While Driving – First Offense” and carried a civil penalty of $116.

Thomas later documented the entire situation on TikTok and Instagram, where the story quickly exploded online.

Social media users were left baffled that the stop continued after the deputy realised she did not have a right hand, with many urging Thomas to challenge the citation in court.

She eventually pleaded not guilty during a court appearance in late April and continued updating followers throughout the legal process.

Ahead of a scheduled hearing on Wednesday, May 27, Thomas also uploaded the official body-camera footage she had requested from the traffic stop, PEOPLE reports.

But before the hearing could even happen, the deputy involved reportedly requested that the citation be dismissed due to “lack of evidence.”

Thomas later confirmed the outcome in a social media update.

The case was officially dismissed over the holiday weekend. Reacting to the decision online, she joked: “Bro, we knew that already.”
