Prince William has gone viral after fans spotted him doing something brutally relatable during Aston Villa’s Europa League celebrations.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Prince of Wales was in Istanbul, Turkey, to watch his beloved Aston Villa lift the UEFA Europa League trophy — and it turns out not even royal phone calls are getting answered during match celebrations.
Footage shared online captured the exact moment William received an incoming call while filming the scenes on the pitch following Villa’s victory.
And without even a second of hesitation, he simply pressed “decline” and carried on recording.
The hilarious clip quickly spread across social media, with royal fans and football supporters loving how ruthlessly focused William was on the moment unfolding in front of him.
In the video, the 43-year-old can be seen holding his phone horizontally while trying to zoom in on the celebrations below.
Then suddenly, a call appears on screen.
Although internet detectives immediately tried to work out who was calling him, the name was impossible to make out clearly. But whoever it was, they were getting ignored.
William instantly hit decline before returning straight back to filming Aston Villa’s celebrations.
“I would have done the same,” one TikTok user wrote, with another joking: “First thing’s first, Kate”.
The clip has since left people online in stitches, with many joking that absolutely nobody was interrupting him during one of the biggest nights in Aston Villa’s modern history.
While the video William recorded himself was never publicly shared, the future king later posted a message online celebrating the club’s historic triumph.
“Amazing night! Huge congratulations to all the players, team, staff and everyone connected to the club! 44 years since the last taste of European silverware,” he wrote.
He also gave a special mention to injured midfielder Boubacar Kamara, writing: “Special shout out to Boubacar Kamara, who has been out injured but is such an integral part of our team and helped lay the foundations of this success.”
Fan footage from the game also shows the future king roaring in celebration and singing ‘Sweet Caroline’:
William has supported Aston Villa for decades and has previously spoken about why he chose the Birmingham club instead of supporting one of English football’s traditional giants.
“A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams,” he told the BBC back in 2015. “I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
His love for the club has clearly rubbed off on his eldest son too, with Prince George regularly joining his father at major Villa matches.
But it seems football loyalties are split inside the royal household.
During a recent visit to Cornwall, William reportedly revealed: “My daughter loves Chelsea.”
The viral phone clip has now become another reminder that despite being heir to the throne, The Prince of Wales is still basically every other football fan when their team finally wins a major trophy.
