A paraglider somehow walked away alive after a plane tore straight through her parachute in a horrifying mid-air collision that was all captured on camera.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Sabrina, 44, was flying above Austria’s Schmittenhöhe mountain when what should have been a peaceful flight suddenly turned into a nightmare within seconds.
The terrifying footage shows a small sightseeing plane approaching dangerously close before its wing slices directly through Sabrina’s canopy — just feet above her head.
In an instant, the parachute that had been keeping her suspended in the air was shredded apart.
Pieces of the canopy spiralled through the sky as Sabrina screamed and began dropping rapidly toward the ground.
The plane narrowly avoided striking her directly, but the impact completely destroyed the paraglider wing and left her tangled in cords and torn material thousands of feet in the air.
What followed was a desperate fight to survive.
As the remains of the parachute wrapped around her, Sabrina scrambled to release her emergency chute before it was too late.
Incredibly, she managed to free herself and deploy the backup parachute moments before disaster.
The emergency chute opened successfully and slowed her fall enough to save her life.
Harrowing images from the incident show Sabrina suspended beneath the reserve parachute while strips of fabric from the destroyed canopy flutter around her.
Despite the violent collision, the 44-year-old survived with relatively minor injuries.
In a post shared on Instagram after the incident, Sabrina admitted she still struggled to process what had happened.
“I actually still can’t believe that I’m sitting here typing this — and that, aside from a few nasty bruises and some general contusions, absolutely nothing happened,” she wrote on Instagram.
Emergency crews later picked Sabrina up in a police helicopter before taking her to a local airport for treatment.
Officials confirmed that the small aircraft also landed safely at Zell am See Airport following the collision.
According to reports, the pilot — a 28-year-old man — claimed there was no way he could have avoided hitting the paraglider.
The footage has since spread rapidly online, with many viewers stunned that Sabrina managed to survive at all. Others praised her composure and quick thinking, with many pointing out that deploying the emergency parachute under that level of pressure likely saved her life.
One Instagram user wrote: “She did an AMAZING job handling this situation! I am so glad she landed safely, for the pilot to say there was no way to avoid this accident that is insane to me, how can you miss a GIANT pink parachute in front of you?”
Another added: “Unbelievable!!! Your calm and perfect reaction saved your life, amazing job! I hope you catch that criminal!”
A third typed: “You are a badass. Way to stay composed and get to land safe.”
Sabrina shared a follow-up post on Instagram, explaining that she was paragliding in a sanctioned air space, “as a paraglider you can’t dodge a small plane”, and confirmed that “the pilot of the plane also landed safely”.
She also thanked the makers of her parachute, writing: “The biggest thank you to my lifesaver: my life parachute from @uturn_paragliders.”
The incident has also reignited concerns around paragliding safety following several recent fatal accidents across Europe.
Just months earlier, tourist Cristina Colturi died after a paragliding crash in Tenerife, The Sun reports.
Cristina had been flying with a certified instructor when the pair crashed into a rocky area near La Enramada beach in Costa Adeje. Emergency services rushed to help, but she was already in cardiac arrest when crews arrived at the scene. She later died in hospital two days after the accident.
According to reports, the paragliding experience had been bought for her as a Christmas gift by her boyfriend.
