A man has horrified — and strangely impressed — the internet after revealing the bizarre way he cleans his toilet seat.

The unusual cleaning hack went viral after TikTok user @alisonkoroly shared a video showing her husband, Wes, tackling bathroom cleaning in a way most people definitely did not see coming.

Instead of reaching for antibacterial spray, bleach, or disinfectant wipes, Wes simply removed the family toilet seat… and placed it straight into the dishwasher.

Yes. The same dishwasher used for plates, cutlery, mugs, and bowls… y’know, the thinks you eat off/with.

The clip quickly exploded online, racking up more than 5.5 million views as social media users collectively tried to decide whether the idea was genius or absolutely disgusting.

In the now-viral video, Wes casually slots the toilet seat into the dishwasher for a wash cycle as though it’s the most normal thing in the world.

Needless to say, TikTok users had plenty to say about it.

“I’m never buying a second hand dishwasher,” one horrified viewer commented.

Another wrote: “Bruh. Not with the dishes in it already. Please god no.”

A third added: “I’d never put that there, where my plates and forks etc. goes into. [I don’t care] how clean it gets.”

And another person summed up the feelings of many viewers by saying: “I don’t care how hot it gets or how much soap is used, that dishwasher is forever tainted.”

Still, not everybody was disgusted.

Some viewers actually praised the method and argued that dishwashers are specifically designed to sanitise items using extremely hot water.

Several TikTokers even described the idea as “creative” and “amazing.”

The clip has since become another classic internet divide — with people either insisting it’s secretly smart or declaring they’d never eat off dishes cleaned in that machine ever again.

And somehow, the story only became even more chaotic from there.

As the debate spread online, people began sharing other questionable dishwasher cleaning confessions — including one mum who admitted she regularly cleans her toilet brush inside hers.

Posting on parenting forum Mumsnet, user Swizzle007 wrote: “I clean my toilet brush in the dishwasher every few months.”

“I just put the brush and holder in, on their own, on a hot wash and they come out like new.”

The woman then explained how the confession came to light after a friend visited her home for coffee.

“A friend popped by this morning for coffee, and I opened the dishwasher to get out a couple of mugs, forgetting that I had put the toilet items in last night,” she wrote.

According to the post, the friend did not take the revelation particularly well.

“She totally freaked out, saying this is totally disgusting, and re-washed the mugs I had then taken out from the cupboard AND poured boiling water on them before she would allow me to make her coffee!!”

Trying to defend herself, the woman pointed out the mugs and toilet brush were cleaned in separate dishwasher loads. “The mugs and loo bush were washed in separate loads,” she added.

But much like the toilet seat debate on TikTok, people online still weren’t convinced.

One person bluntly replied: “I don’t care how hygienic it is, just NO.”

The viral reactions have now sparked a wider argument online over where people draw the line between “technically sanitised” and “absolutely not happening in my kitchen.”

Because while dishwashers may kill bacteria, for many people, the mental image alone is enough to ruin them forever.
