A man in the Philippines has gone viral after inventing a unique way for his injured pet lovebird to experience flight again following a life-changing cat attack.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The bird, a lovebird named Lovebird Nitya, suffered serious injuries after being grabbed by a cat, leaving her unable to properly stand, land, or move around with coordination, PEOPLE reports.
Wanting to restore some sense of freedom to his pet, owner Marc Joseph Colando came up with an unusual but surprisingly effective solution — attaching a small transparent cabin to a drone so Nitya could safely soar through the air once again.
Videos of the setup – shared to Instagram – show the brightly coloured bird riding calmly inside the clear enclosure while the drone gently lifts into the sky before slowly returning to the ground.
According to Colando, the attack permanently affected Nitya’s mobility. Although she recovered enough to manage short flights, her damaged coordination meant she could no longer properly walk, balance, or land safely.
He explained that the idea unexpectedly came to him during a morning meditation session and that he decided to test it almost immediately.
The homemade system worked far better than he expected, and he believes his beloved bird genuinely enjoys the experience of flying through the air again.
Colando also described Nitya as an extremely affectionate companion and said the bond he shares with her is incredibly important to him emotionally.
Lovebirds are a species of small parrot originally native to parts of Africa and Madagascar. They are particularly known for forming strong emotional attachments, often bonding very closely with mates or owners.
The clips quickly spread online, with many viewers praising both the creativity and compassion behind the invention.
Some people also noted how carefully controlled the flights appeared to be, with the drone remaining stable and operating at safe heights while allowing the bird to safely enjoy the sensation of movement and height.
Interestingly, Nitya is not the only pet bird recently making headlines for unusual travel adventures.
Another viral story involved Steven Lawyer, who designed a miniature submarine for his white-winged parakeet Bebe during a vacation in the Bahamas.
Footage from the trip showed the bird calmly travelling underwater inside the custom-built capsule. Check it out below:
Lawyer later explained that the bird entered the submarine willingly and appeared to enjoy the experience far more than being left behind in a cage or accommodation during outings.
He also stressed that safety and comfort were his top priorities throughout the process.
Before taking the bird underwater, he carefully tested the submarine’s airflow systems, stability controls, oxygen levels, and overall function. He even conducted practice runs in a kitchen sink to make sure the bird showed no signs of stress or discomfort.
According to Lawyer, he would never involve the bird in any activity that caused fear or anxiety and only introduced experiences gradually after observing the animal’s curiosity and comfort levels.
While custom bird drones and miniature submarines may sound bizarre at first, both stories have resonated online because of the effort owners are making to improve the lives of their pets in creative ways.
And in Nitya’s case, although she may never fully recover the ability to fly independently, her owner has still found a way to help her return to the skies.
