Jake, who posts under the handle @jakebley, shared the emotional tribute on X, exactly 10 years after his mum passed away from leukaemia.

In a post that quickly spread across social media, Jake explained that before she died, his mother left each of her children a parting gift. His was something far more personal than anything money could buy.

“Today marks 10 years since my mother passed away from leukemia,” he wrote. “As a parting gift she gave each of her children a present. Mine was her diaries, hand written since she was a little girl. This is what she wrote the night I was born. It’s now my first tattoo.”

Alongside the post, Jake shared a photo of an old diary entry written by his mum on the day he was born.

The handwritten note reads:

“JAKE was born 8:17pm
2590 gms app 6 lb.
47.5 cms. long.
-Only a little fellow.”

Jake then revealed he had tattooed the final line — “Only a little fellow” — onto his leg in his mother’s exact handwriting.

The understated tribute hit people hard online, with thousands reacting to the post and many calling it one of the most touching things they had ever seen on the platform.

One user replied: “What a beautiful way to remember her.”

Another wrote: “That’s the most poignant thing I think I have ever seen here”

A third said: “This is so sweet.”

While another added: “Absolutely beautiful!”

As the post continued to gain traction, Jake returned with another update, admitting he was stunned by how many people had connected with his story.

“Two last things and then I’ll leave it alone,” he wrote. “1. I was premature and weighed only 5.7 pounds when born. So… only a little fellow.

“2. I can’t believe so many people have read my mum’s handwriting […] what an incredible way to honour her”

The emotional response only continued to grow, with Jake later revealing that the viral moment had encouraged him to spend more time going through the memories his mum left behind.

“Since this has reached so many people, I wanted to update saying that I’ve started going through the note, diaries, documents and photos my mum left me,” he wrote the following day. “I found this photo of her and she was so damn cool. There’s so much to read and preserve.”

What began as a simple tattoo post quickly became something much bigger — as many more people started sharing their own touching tributes. You can see those below:
