Some people slide into DMs. Others send regrettable drunk texts at 2:00AM. And then there’s whatever this fella from Roscommon in Ireland decided to do.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! An Irish man has gone wildly viral online after appearing to use an online condolence book to try and reconnect with an ex-girlfriend he apparently dated decades ago — all while paying respects following the death of her mother.
The message, posted publicly on RIP.ie, quickly began circulating across social media after people spotted what started as a sympathy message before taking a very unexpected detour into a full-blown romantic callback story.
The now-viral post begins: “Joan my deepest sympathy to you on your mother’s death RIP.”
Now, if only he’s have just left it there. However, he continued: “You were my girlfriend years ago when you were in Feely’s Academy school in Roscommon town. I was dating you in Carrick too. We met in Kitty O’Shea’s night club in Roscommon town.
“I often thought of you after to see how you got on no mobile phones that time. I think it could have been late 80s or early 90s. I think we were too young ti settle down but I’d like to get in contact with you again.”

The fella then left his name, number, and location.
Naturally, the internet had an absolute field day with the post.
While some people were left stunned that somebody would choose an online obituary page as the location for a reunion attempt, others couldn’t help but admire the sheer commitment to the cause.
One social media user simply wrote: “Not appropriate”
Another joked: “You have been in the w**k bank for 40 years and sorry for your loss” (Which, admittedly, is probably the harshest condolence message analysis ever delivered online.)
But plenty of people were weirdly impressed by the confidence levels involved. One person said: “That’s a man whose life philosophy is ‘don’t ask, don’t get’, I admire the chutzpah”.
While another commented: “Never in my life have I heard of someone doing this but I have to say he’s gutsy.”
And honestly, “gutsy” might be underselling it.
The post even caught the attention of Irish social media star Garron Noone, who left plenty of viewers in stitches with his reaction to the bizarre situation.
As the screenshot continued spreading online, people became increasingly divided over whether it was wildly inappropriate or strangely wholesome in an utterly chaotic Irish way.
Either way, one thing became very clear very quickly: absolutely nobody expected RIP.ie to suddenly become Ireland’s most unexpected dating app.
