An all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in Spain has gone viral after introducing a bizarre new rule aimed at stopping diners from pushing themselves past breaking point.

And yes, it’s exactly as grim as it sounds.

Sushi Toro, a buffet-style sushi restaurant in the Spanish town of Gelves, has reportedly been forced to impose what it calls a “vomit fee” after multiple customers allegedly ate so much food that they threw up inside the restaurant.

The restaurant, which boasts a 4.7-star Google rating and has become a popular spot for both locals and tourists, is known for its affordable all-you-can-eat menu. Prices range from €16.90 to €23.90, making it an attractive option for anyone looking to demolish endless plates of sushi without destroying their bank account.

Unfortunately, it seems some diners took the “all-you-can-eat” concept a little too seriously.

According to the restaurant, the situation became so frequent that staff were left with no choice but to take action.

The warning first appeared on a sign taped to the restaurant’s front door, written in all caps to make sure nobody missed it.

“If a customer vomits due to overeating, the restaurant reserves the right to charge a cleaning fee. Thank you.”

That message quickly spread across social media, with people stunned that a restaurant had actually reached the point where this kind of warning was necessary in the first place.

But according to Sushi Toro, the issue wasn’t a one-off incident.

In a Facebook statement explaining the decision, the restaurant claimed that “many” customers had overeaten to the point of vomiting while dining there.

“We’ve had vomit on tables and in bathrooms, and the only solution we have is to charge an additional cleaning fee for each incident,” the statement read.

“With every order we prepare, we work very hard to get it out on time and maintain good hygiene, so we ask for your cooperation because this also affects the customers dining in the restaurant. Please order only what you can eat, and we apologise for the inconvenience.”

The story has since sparked a huge debate online, with plenty of people defending the restaurant’s stance.

Given the restaurant’s relatively cheap pricing for unlimited sushi, many argued it’s understandable that staff would become frustrated if customers were effectively treating the venue like a competitive eating challenge.

Others, meanwhile, were simply shocked that the restaurant had apparently experienced enough vomiting incidents to justify printing an official notice.

All-you-can-eat restaurants have always walked a fine line between abundance and excess, but Sushi Toro’s viral policy may be one of the clearest signs yet that buffet culture can occasionally spiral out of control.

The restaurant’s prices — starting at under €17 — appear to have added to the frenzy, with some social media users joking that diners were trying to “get their money’s worth” at absolutely any cost.

Still, Sushi Toro insists the policy is ultimately about maintaining hygiene standards and protecting the experience for other paying customers.
