The bizarre incident unfolded near the Surrey-Delta border in British Columbia on Saturday afternoon after a collision involving a motorcycle and a silver sedan, CBC reports.

Police said officers were called just before 3:00PM to the intersection near the 7100-block of Scott Road at 72nd Avenue and 120th Street following reports of a crash between the two vehicles.

But when emergency crews arrived, they were met with a scene that looked more like something out of an action film than a normal road collision.

The motorcycle had somehow launched into the air and become tangled around an overhead traffic signal, left dangling high above the road as debris littered the intersection below.

Photos and videos from the scene quickly exploded online, showing the wrecked bike suspended from the traffic light while firefighters and tow crews gathered underneath trying to figure out how to bring it back down safely.

Police confirmed the rider suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

The driver of the sedan was uninjured.

Local resident William Chan said he initially spotted the damaged vehicle before realising where the motorcycle had ended up.

“Never seen anything like this, like seeing a movie,” he told CBC.

Chan explained he was driving nearby on his way to Krispy Kreme when the crash scene caught his attention. “I was looking down and then I looked up and the [motorbike] was above — kind of crazy,” he said.

Footage from the aftermath showed crowds gathering around the intersection, many pulling out phones to capture the surreal sight while emergency crews worked below. One Reddit user has also shared an unverified video to the platform appearing to show the moment unfold – that can be seen below:

Chan admitted he stayed at the scene purely to watch how crews planned to remove the motorcycle from the traffic signal.

“Just to see how people are getting it down.… Going to be quite interesting,” he said.

Another witness, Jevon Ryan, struggled to comprehend how the bike ended up wrapped around the overhead structure instead of flying elsewhere after impact.

“You’d think it would launch to the sidewalks, to the businesses but to perfectly get up there and wrap itself around.… It’s wow,” Ryan said.

According to reports, the motorcycle collided with the front end of the silver BMW before being thrown into the air. Images from the crash showed severe damage to the car’s front bumper while pieces of debris remained scattered across the roadway.

Delta police temporarily shut down Scott Road between 70th Avenue and 72nd Avenue while emergency crews cleared the scene and removed the damaged vehicles.

Delta Firefighters IAFF Local 1763 later confirmed firefighters assisted with patient care, scene safety and eventually bringing the suspended motorcycle back down to the ground.

They also shared an important reminder to social media, writing: “Today also serves as an important reminder to slow down, stay alert, and practice road safety at all times — whether you are driving, riding, cycling, or walking in our community. A moment of caution can make all the difference.”

As footage spread across social media, many users were left completely baffled by the physics behind the crash. One person wrote: “Some insane physics went on here.”

“The bike looks in surprisingly good shape, considering,” one Reddit user said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the collision.
