A groom’s unconventional vows have exploded across social media after a wedding videographer shared the footage online, leaving millions stunned and sparking a fierce debate over what is — and definitely isn’t — appropriate at the altar.

The video, posted by videographer Jonathan Pajak (@lensculture), has racked up more than 19 million views, with viewers flocking to the comments to dissect every second of groom Michael’s speech to his bride, Destiny.

And it didn’t take long for jaws to drop.

Before the ceremony had even properly begun, Michael set the tone when asked if he had anything to say to his future wife. “I hope we have a lot of sex,” he replied.

And if that didn’t raise eyebrows, what followed during the vows themselves pushed things even further.

Leaning into humour that many viewers felt crossed the line, Michael opened with a blunt whisper: “You’re screwed.”

He then continued with a string of remarks that instantly went viral for all the wrong reasons.

“Only two things are required to keep me happy: Keep my belly full and my b***s empty. While you’re amazing at half of it, we really need to get you some cooking lessons,” the groom says in front of their family and friends.

Elsewhere, he even talks about another woman, saying: “There is no one I could ever love more in this lifetime… unless, I actually get a chance to meet Margot Robbie.”

He then continues: “Nothing is better than the sound of gagging and headboards slamming.” For many watching, that was the moment the clip shifted from awkward to outright shocking. The comment also drew a sharp reaction from those closest to him — including a stern “Michael!” from his own mother… the officiant.

Social media quickly lit up with reactions, with thousands branding the vows as a major “red flag” and questioning how the bride managed to stand there through it all.

“I can’t believe he said that,” one viewer wrote, echoing the disbelief felt across the comment section.

Others didn’t hold back either. “I’m not even kidding I would have walked away from that altar,” a second added, with a third writing: “I would have ended it there.”

“Instant divorce not even joking,” one TikTok user wrote, with a fifth commenting: “That’s HUMILIATING.”

Another person commented: “Pardon?! In front of loved ones? In [front] of his parents?! That’s HORRIFYING.”

“That’s actually disgusting,” wrote one TikToker. “I would walk right out of that wedding if I was the bride.”

“That’s just… wow. I’m sorry for her.”

The reaction was relentless — and overwhelmingly critical.

But like most viral moments, there was more to the story than the clip alone suggested.

Despite the backlash, bride Destiny eventually stepped in to address the storm surrounding her wedding day, offering a very different perspective to the one dominating the comments.

“So [I’m] the bride an no this isn’t a red flag […] we have been together for 10 years now and decided to get married right before our 10th year,” she wrote on social media.

Her response immediately shifted the tone of the conversation, with some users pointing out that context — and the couple’s dynamic — matters more than a few out-of-context clips.

“Everyone in the comments freaking out while his wife is cracking up. Context matters folks,” one defender wrote, with another commenting: “She’s got a good sense of humor I can tell. They’re gonna live happy together.”

And while the viral snippets focused heavily on the controversial jokes, the full version of the vows painted a slightly more balanced picture.

Among the eyebrow-raising lines, Michael did include moments of genuine affection and sincerity, as he declared: “With you and the girls by my side, I feel like I can conquer anything. You all my life worth living; giving every breath of every day a purpose.”

For some, it was a couple sharing their private humour in a public setting — nothing more. For others, it was a misjudged attempt at comedy during one of life’s most meaningful milestones.
