It started as a one-star complaint.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It ended as one of the internet’s favourite accidental plot twists.
A man named Dan has gone viral after posting two back-to-back reviews of a Chili’s restaurant — documenting what he believed was a full-blown crisis, before realising the problem wasn’t the restaurant at all.
It was him.
In his first review, Dan claimed he was stuck in a genuinely uncomfortable situation — alone, stranded, and waiting for help that never came.
Leaving one-star, he wrote: “Currently trapped in a Chili’s bathroom because they’re out of toilet paper. I called the restaurant from the stall twice to ask for a refill. No one has come. It’s been 15 minutes. My fajitas are probably cold.”
It reads like the start of a disaster story.
There’s urgency, frustration, and a very real sense of defeat setting in — all from inside a bathroom stall.
But the real twist came in the follow-up.
Because not long after posting the original complaint, Dan returned with a second review — this time with a very different tone.
“I was calling the wrong Chili’s the entire time,” Dan wrote – this time awarding five stars. “They just came to my rescue and I don’t know how to delete reviews.”
Just like that, the entire situation flipped.
What looked like a restaurant ignoring a desperate customer turned out to be a case of mistaken identity — with Dan unknowingly calling the wrong location while stuck in the bathroom.
And once the correct Chili’s realised what was happening, they stepped in to help.
The internet, unsurprisingly, loved it.
The reviews quickly made their way onto social media, where users couldn’t get enough of the unintentional comedy.
“Good thing they had their phone […] My hub got ‘trapped’ and left his phone with me at the booth. There sits me, none the wiser, while he was fighting for his life in a restaurant bathroom,” one person commented.
Another joked about immortalising the moment: “This needs to be framed and hanging at every Chili’s entrance. Classic!”
Others related all too well to the situation.
“Been there… just use the seat protector,” one social media user wrote.
And some couldn’t help but picture the chaos unfolding behind the scenes.
Another baffled TikTok user commented: “so the other chilis kept going in looking for him?”
One comment summed up the desperation perfectly — with a very relatable alternative solution. “I’d rather use my socks than call the store,” another added.
What makes the story hit isn’t just the mix-up — it’s how seriously it started.
For 15 minutes, Dan believed he was stuck, ignored, and abandoned mid-meal, watching his fajitas grow cold while help failed to arrive.
In reality, help was never coming — because he was asking the wrong people.
And yet somehow, it still ended with a rescue.
The final detail? He still isn’t sure how to delete the original review.
Which means, for now, both sides of the story live on — the panic, and the punchline.
A one-star emergency turned five-star comedy.
