A group of dads has set the bar for other dads everywhere after they attended a workshop to learn how to do their daughters’ hair.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!A pub in London played host to the unusual but heartwarming scene: pints on the table, mannequin heads lined up, and dozens of dads carefully practising braids.
The gathering wasn’t for a stag do or a football watch party. Instead, it was a workshop designed to help fathers learn a skill many admit they never picked up growing up.
And when footage from the event hit social media, it quickly captured the internet’s attention.
On March 8, the Instagram account Secret Life of Dads shared a clip showing what they described simply as: “35 dads in a pub, learning to braid their daughters hair.”
The video was filmed at the Lucky Saints Pub in London, where roughly three dozen fathers gathered around a long table for an event fittingly titled “Pints and Ponytails.”
Leading the tutorial was a hairstylist from Braid Maidens, who guided the dads step-by-step through the process of braiding and styling hair.
For many of the men in the room, the goal was simple: learn how to help their daughters get ready in the mornings, or give them a new way to bond.
What made the evening particularly special was the turnout.
“Less than three weeks ago we sat in this very space at the Lucky Saint Beer pub with 10 other dads and last night 35 dads walked through the door!!” The Secret Life of Dads posted on Instagram. “Most of them came alone but were all there for the same reason … to learn how to do their daughters’ hair. What followed was one of the most special evenings we’ve ever been part of!”
The event itself was hosted by Secret Life of Dads podcasters Mathew Lewis-Carter and Lawrence Price, who organised the workshop as a way to encourage dads to pick up new parenting skills while also building community.
Addressing the group during the evening, Price acknowledged the courage it took for many of the fathers to attend.
“This is only the second time that we’ve hosted this event, and a lot of you doing it alone as well, not knowing who you’d be meeting, it takes a lot of guts and courage,” Price said to the group of dads.
The sentiment behind the event was echoed by Lewis-Carter, who highlighted the deeper reason many had shown up.
“So it’s a testament to you as dads for wanting to be here to learn a new skill, to create a deeper connection with your daughter,” Lewis-Carter added.
It didn’t take long for the video to spread online.
Within 24 hours, the clip exploded across TikTok and Instagram Reels, racking up more than 15 million views between the platforms. The wholesome nature of the event struck a chord with viewers, who flooded the comments with emotional reactions and praise.
“Love this,” a TikTok user said. “This needs to be nationwide.”
Others saw the event as something bigger than just learning braids and ponytails.
“This is what generational healing looks like,” a person commented on Instagram.
Another user summed up the mood of the room in just a few words, calling it “a room full of green flags.”
While the workshop may have been light-hearted — dads juggling pints while attempting their first braids — it also highlighted a shift in modern parenting. Fathers are increasingly seeking out ways to be more hands-on in everyday parts of their children’s lives.
