We’ve all heard our fair share of stories about hapless husbands — the forgotten anniversaries, the missed hints, the “it was in the fridge the whole time” moments.

What was meant to be a straightforward Christmas Day drive through the night quickly turned into a marathon ordeal no one saw coming — especially this woman, who found herself alone in the dark after her husband unknowingly pulled away without her.
Back in 2023, then 55-year-old Boontom Chaimoon and his wife, 49-year-old Amnuay Chaimoon, had set off in the early hours of Christmas Day for what should have been a straightforward overnight drive. Their destination was her hometown in the province of Maha Sarakham, in central northeastern Thailand.
They left in the early hours of the morning, planning to travel through the night, The Mirror reports.
Somewhere along the route, Boontom decided he couldn’t wait any longer for a toilet break. Despite his wife questioning why he didn’t just wait until they came across a petrol station instead, he pulled his Isuzu pickup truck over at the side of the road so he could relieve himself.
That’s where the chaos quietly began.
After Boontom stepped out, Amnuay decided she would also use the opportunity for a quick bathroom break. She ducked into a nearby patch of jungle for privacy.
But when she returned to the roadside moments later, the pickup was gone.
Her husband had driven off. In the pitch black. Without her.
There was no dramatic confrontation. No shouting across the road. Just silence — and the realisation that she had been left completely stranded.
To make matters worse, Amnuay had no money on her and her phone was inside a bag left in the vehicle, according to Thai news site Matichon. Therefore, calling her husband wasn’t an option. So, she started walking.
Alone, in the early hours of Christmas morning, she made the decision to head towards the nearest district. The centre of Kabin Buri was more than 12 miles away — roughly 13 miles in total — a distance just shy of a half marathon.
It was a gruelling trek.
But by around 5:00AM, she reached Kabin Buri and found a local police station. Exhausted and shaken, she pleaded with officers to help her track down her husband. There was another problem, though — she couldn’t remember his phone number.
Police managed to locate Boontom’s number and attempted to call him. They tried her phone as well, ringing more than 20 times. But he didn’t answer.
Completely unaware of the panic unfolding behind him, Boontom continued driving. Reports suggest he remained blissfully oblivious to the predicament he had left his wife in.
It wasn’t until around 8am that reality hit.
By then, he had reached Korat province — approximately 100 miles from where Amnuay had been left on the roadside.
Only at that point did he realise she was not, in fact, sleeping in the back seat.
According to reports, Boontom had believed his wife of 27 years was resting throughout the journey. When asked how he could have driven so far without noticing her absence, the humiliated husband reportedly said he was sure she was in the back seat sleeping the whole time.
Once he understood what had happened, there was only one option: Turn around.
And so, he drove the 100 miles back to collect her.
After what had already been a night neither of them will ever forget, the reunion itself was reportedly calm. Despite the scale of the blunder, Amnuay did not argue when he picked her up. The couple, who have now been married for 30 years, left together once again — this time with both passengers accounted for.
It’s the sort of mistake that defies belief. A quick roadside stop turning into an accidental separation spanning provinces. A 13-mile walk in darkness. Twenty unanswered calls. A 100-mile realisation.
And yet, somehow, the marriage survived the journey.
