What began as a glossy social media moment quickly spiralled into a full-blown online debate, after Alabama Barker lifted the lid on the eye-watering haul she received for her birthday and Christmas.

The 20-year-old, daughter of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, marked her birthday on Christmas Eve and decided to document the celebrations with a nearly nine-minute TikTok video. The clip, which has since been widely dissected, showed Alabama walking viewers through an ultra-luxury haul of presents bought by her dad and stepmum, Kourtney Kardashian.

From the outset, the scale of the spending was impossible to miss. Designer footwear, high-end handbags, diamond jewellery and top-tier tech were all laid out as Alabama repeatedly told her followers she was “beyond blessed, grateful and thankful” for what she had received.

But while the video was framed as a celebratory “thank you”, the reaction online was far less unanimous.

One of the first flashpoints came when Alabama revealed a pink Hermès Birkin bag, widely believed to be worth more than $20,000 on its own. That single item prompted viewers to start doing the maths, breaking down the cost of each visible gift and sharing their estimates in the comments.

The footwear alone gave fans plenty to work with. Among just half of the shoes she showed were Hermès Oran sandals retailing at $1,250, Ugg Scuffette Caspian slippers priced at $115, ERL Venice Beach California shearling slippers fetching $620, René Caovilla chandelier black sandal heels costing $2,190, and another pair of René Caovilla heels from a designer outlet priced at $1,890. Altogether, those five pairs — two of which were clearly intended for wearing around the house — came to a combined $6,065.

And that was only a fraction of the overall haul.

Alabama also revealed she had been gifted a $32,000 Leve bracelet, alongside dozens of other luxury items, including an iPad and a pink Mac. TikToker Destinee Moreh later posted her own analysis of the video, estimating the total value at $81,350, though she caveated that figure as being “minus the Birkin, Chrome Hearts, and all the other vintage Chanel & lingerie”.

Others weren’t convinced even that number told the full story. Several commenters insisted the true total was significantly higher, with some suggesting the gifts edged closer to $200,000! Check out the full video below:

Yet for all the talk about money, it wasn’t the price tag that caused the biggest backlash.

Midway through the video, Alabama revealed that her dad had also bought her lingerie from high-end brand Agent Provocateur — a detail that immediately shifted the tone of the discussion.

“So my dad went a little crazy at Agent Provocateur,” she told her followers. “Kourtney picked out most of it and then the girl knows me there, so she like gave recommendations of what I liked.

“I got this like really cute one, how cute is that? This really pretty one, like this is gorgeous and then I also got like this black one but it has like these little hit pads – it’s cute,” she said in the video. “The rest is bras and underwear beside these, and I also got this like really pretty corset – it’s like very show girl vibes, very tea, very vig, it’s very Miami.”

She went on to add: “This cheetah slip to go to sleep in is so beautiful. This robe is actually insane – so gorgeous.”

For many viewers, the explanation didn’t land comfortably. The idea of a father purchasing lingerie for his adult daughter sparked a wave of criticism, with comments ranging from discomfort to outright disgust.

One TikTok user wrote: “I could never imagine my parents, especially my dad, buying me lingerie”, while another commented: “that’s gross and nvr an appropriate gift from a parent figure to a female child of any age”.

As the backlash intensified, Alabama returned to TikTok to address the criticism head-on, posting a heated 33-second rant aimed directly at those questioning the gift.

“Hold on, hold on, I have to go on a f***ing rant! Why the f***, why the f***, are you guys trying to make this lingerie thing a thing – it’s never going to be a thing Gretchen,” she said, referencing the 2004 film Mean Girls.

She went on to clarify her version of events, saying: “Kourtney picked out the lingerie, Kourtney! You think my dad’s like, ‘oh I’m going to pick my daughter’s lingerie’? No. It was on my Christmas list and he wanted to make it happen for me so he let Kourtney go pick out the lingerie.

“God forbid a girl wanted cute panties and bras. Like literally, leave me alone. I’m literally never going to do another Christmas haul again.”

Clearly frustrated, Alabama wrapped up the rant with: “I hate you guys, I hate you guys. The poochie is nasty.”

Despite the noise, not everyone was critical. Some fans came to Alabama’s defence, pointing out that with a gift list of that size, it was likely handled with the help of personal shoppers and stylists rather than being a deeply personal purchase made directly by her dad.

Still, the episode highlights how quickly luxury, celebrity family dynamics, and social media sometimes don’t mix. (Well… often don’t mix.)
